8th May Black Day for Lahore Bar Association
Condemnation of Excessive Force Against Lawyers,we are deeply committed to upholding human rights and promoting justice worldwide. It is with great concern that we address the recent events unfolding in Lahore, Pakistan, where the fundamental rights of individuals have been egregiously violated.
On the 8th of May, the city of Lahore witnessed a disturbing display of excessive force against peaceful protesters, particularly lawyers, by the orders of Chief Justice Malik Shehzad Gheba of the Lahore High Court. Despite their peaceful demonstration for their basic rights, these lawyers were met with water cannons, tear gas, and brutal shelling by law enforcement personnel.
Such actions represent a flagrant disregard for the principles of democracy, the rule of law, and basic human rights. Every individual has the right to peacefully assemble and express their grievances without fear of reprisal or violence. The use of force against unarmed protesters not only violates these rights but also undermines the very foundation of justice and democracy.
As an organization dedicated to justice and human rights, we unequivocally condemn the actions taken by Chief Justice Malik Shehzad Gheba and the law enforcement authorities in Lahore. Their actions constitute a clear violation of international human rights standards and the principles of fair and just governance.
We stand in solidarity with the lawyers and all those who have been unjustly targeted and repressed. It is imperative that those responsible for ordering and executing such atrocities are held accountable for their actions. We call upon the authorities in Pakistan to investigate these incidents thoroughly and ensure that justice is served.
At Lahore Bar Association we remain steadfast in our commitment to promoting and defending human rights wherever they are threatened. The events in Lahore serve as a stark reminder of the ongoing struggle for justice and accountability. Together, let us continue to raise our voices against injustice and work towards a world where the rights and dignity of every individual are respected and protected.
